So Tebow ended up on the New York Jets. Is this a good thing for Mark Sanchez? A lot of people don’t think so, but some do. It will definitely give the Jets’ offense a lot of new looks. The Wildcat should be a featured part of their offense this season, and Tebow should average 5-10 snaps a game. Maybe more depending on how successful he is.
So that has to be good for Sanchez, doesn’t it. Tebow is a great option quarterback, but he won’t be able to run the Jets normal offense. Sanchez is the man in that role. But having Tebow run the Wildcat will force opposing defenses to adjust and plan on facing two completely different offenses. This should open up some things for Sanchez, and allow him to do more with less plays. I for one hopes it works this way.
Fantasy Football Update: Tim Tebow… just kidding. Michael Bush signed today with the Chicago Bears, Fantasy players will remember that Bush had a great year last year on the Oakland Raiders backing up Darren McFadden. Bush started 9 games when McFadden went down with a foot injury. Totaling 977 rushing yards and another 418 threw the air.
Bush helped me win my big money fantasy football league last year. This was also a keeper league, so I was hoping that he would find a starting role somewhere. Right now it looks like he’ll be backing up Forte, who hasn’t agreed to a new contract with the Bears yet. Here is to hoping that they don’t come to an agreement and Forte ends up on someone else roster. It’s not likely, but it’s not impossible either. Just look at Peyton Manning. A couple weeks ago, no thought he would be on the Broncos. Yet there he is.
Okay now back to Tebow. His fantasy value takes a huge hit with this news. In all reality he’ll probably only be on the field for 5-10 plays per game, and they torpedos his fantasy value. Unless he gets the majority of red zone plays, I can’t see justifying starting him any week.
That said, this also hurts Mark Sanchez’s fantasy value. He’ll be on the field for 5-10 plays less that he normally would be. Sanchez who wasn’t really a good fantasy quarterback last year, will lose even more value because he shouldn’t be running the ball at all. Tebow will most probably handle every QB sneak.
If you think that a quarterback not running isn’t a big deal, tell that to Cam Newton owner last year. Newton was one of the most productive fantasy QBs last year because he ran the ball. Most leagues give a lot more points for rushing yards than passing yards, so a running QB can be fantasy gold.
Okay that’s about all for now. Thanks again for reading. This offseason hasn’t been so bad… Unless of course you’re a member of the New Orleans Saints organization…
So what will Tim Tebow roles on the Jets team be? I think it’s safe to say that he’ll lead the team prayers services. Haha.
