The Seattle Seahawks have slightly better odds to win the Super Bowl than the Denver Broncos. I think Las Vegas sees them as have an easier road to the big game, so the chance of them getting to the Super Bowl is probably better than Denver’s.
The Broncos are followed by the 49ers, the Patriots and then Carolina. Below are the odds for all the teams still remaining in the playoffs.
Odds to win the Super Bowl
Seattle Seahawks 12/5
Denver Broncos 13/5
San Francisco 49ers 11/2
New England Patriots 15/2
Carolina Panthers 11/1
Indianapolis Colts 14/1
New Orleans Saints 14/1
San Diego Chargers 14/1
While the Seahawks are favored to win it all, the NFC is still favored to win no matter who gets to the championship game.
SUPER BOWL – Early Line
AFC +2½ (-105)
NFC -2½ (-115)
And the Seattle is favored to win the NFC…
Odds to win the NFC Conference
Seattle Seahawks 10/11
San Francisco 49ers 11/4
Carolina Panthers 9/2
New Orleans Saints 7/1
And as expected the Broncos are favored to win the AFC.
Odds to win the AFC Conference
Denver Broncos 5/7
New England Patriots 3/1
Indianapolis Colts 7/1
San Diego Chargers 7/1
The History Of The Super Bowl
The Super Bowl which is famous throughout the world is the largest sporting event in North America. According to recent figures, over 200 million people watch the super bowl each January making it the most watched event on television.
The famous Super Bowl competition was created due to the merger agreement between the NFL and the AFL in 1966. The name Super Bowl was invented by Kansas City Chief owner, Lamar Hunt who was watching his daughter play with her toy Super Ball, but the name was not meant to be a long lasting name, it was just meant to be a stop gap until the powers that be came up with a more suitable name, however as history has shown, the name stuck.
The official name of the first Super Bowl which took place in 1967 was ‘The NFL-AFL World Championship Game’ but the media did not like the name and thought like most fans it was a mouthful. So the media decided to start referring to the Championship Game as the Super Bowl and in 1969 common sense was seen and the name was changed to ‘Super Bowl’ making it much easier to say.
The first two Super Bowls were won by Green Bay Packers, with the first one being against AFL’s Kansas City Chiefs where they beat them 35-10, fans of opposing teams were left wondering if the team could ever be beaten but the following year their luck ran out when the New York Jets became Super Bowl champions.
In 1970 another major change happened, this time it was the merging of the NFL and AFL into one league with two conferences.
The winner of each Super Bowl receives a trophy named after coaching great Vince Lombardi. Lombardi was the coach for Green Bay Packers who won the first two Super Bowls.
For many years other countries have tried to copy the success of the American Football game, with the UK trying to promote it and generate a huge interest but with English football being the national game, American Football in the UK never really took off. Some hoped that it would generate as much interest as it does in America with some thinking in the future it could become like the world cup with different teams from around the world play each other, but it seems there is only one place where American Football belongs and that is in America.
