That was the question that we were asked by more than a few people in 2006 right before we started this site. Super Bowl XL played between the Seattle Seahawks and the Pittsburgh Steelers seemed to spark a lot of public interest in betting on the big game and in betting it online. At this point, seasoned gamblers had been betting online for years. It was the average everyday NFL fan that wanted the ability to make a bet that was looking for answers.
We’re not sure we’ll ever know what it was about the 2006 Super Bowl that sparked so much public interest in betting on the Super Bowl online. Maybe it was the first time that so many people had access to fast internet connections. Maybe it was the fact that the Steelers have millions of fans (they are the second most popular team in the NFL behind the Cowboys). Maybe it was the spread on the game (the Steelers were favored by 4). Maybe it was the controversy surrounding the officiating of the game (the Seahawks lost by 11, but because of some terrible calls many people think that Seattle should have won the game outright.) Whatever the reason was, all the public interested was what made us start this site.
Since then, we have been providing news, odds and bets during the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl to help the public understand was bets are offered on the game and what sportsbooks they can trust their money with. Unfortunately online gambling isn’t properly regulated yet. Over the year there have been a lot of fly by night operations that set up set up as an online sportsbook, but then disappear shortly after with all their customers money. Some of these sites have been scams and others have just been failed businesses that never got off the ground. This is a big reason why you should never bet with a sportsbook that you don’t know and trust. This is also the reason that every year we rate and recommend our most trusted online sportsbook, so that you can have faith that you money isn’t going to disappear.
For the last several years we’ve rated Bovada (rebranded from BoDog) as the best online sportsbook, and they will receive the same ranking this year. Bovada is a trusted online sportsbook that has been around since for over 16 years. They keep every customer deposit in a separate, secure bank account to ensure that their money is safe. They also have great customer service with an open and friendly staff, but most importantly they offer an incredible amount of bets on the NFL Super Bowl.
Every year we monitor every online sportsbook to see what Super Bowl bets they are offering and for the last several years Bovada has crushed the competition. Their list of available prop bets goes on for pages. They offer standard ones like will Eli Manning throw over or under 310 yards or how many turnovers the Patriots will have. They also offer bets that no one else offers like “What will Kelly Clarkson wear to sing the National Anthem?” or “What color will Madonna’s hair be when she begins the Super Bowl Halftime show?”
They also offer live in game betting. Bovada was the first online sportsbook to offer this. Now more and more online books and even some sportsbooks in Las Vegas offer in game betting.
If you’re not familiar with in-game betting, it allows you to place a bet after every play. A lot of places don’t offer it because it’s too hard to calculate odds after every play, and most bettors don’t want to places a ton of bets on the game. But if you are watching the game and notice something that you think might influence the game’s outcome, and you play with Bovada, you can always log onto your online account and make a bet at any point during the game.
So we will be posting a complete list of good, trusted online sportsbooks in about a week. If you are looking for one today, you can’t go wrong with Bovada. Hopefully with this site and this post we’ve helped answer the question “How do I bet on the Super Bowl?”
If you have any questions on how to make basic bets (such as spread bets, money line bets, and over/unders), we’ll be reviewing all of these in the next couple of days too.
Good Luck! We hope you enjoy and win some money betting on the Super Bowl!
