Only 27 more day until the Super Bowl!
There were some great games this weekend. It was crazy watching them all play out. In the first three games the favorites easily covered. So if you bet on the New Orleans Saints, the Houston Texans and/ or the New York Giants, you easily won your bet. I remember thinking that after the first 3 favorites won and easily covered the spread that the dog (Denver) had to cover the fourth the game. I rushed to bet on the Broncos with the points. (For a few minutes I thought about betting them to win straight up, but didn’t). It’s true anything can happen in the NFL, but I can’t remember the last playoff weekend where all four favorites covered the spread. It wasn’t this weekend!
The Denver Broncos not only covered, they beat the Steelers outright in overtime. Tim Tebow looked good, but he’ll have a tougher job winning this week in New England. The Patriots are a very good team at home, and Tom Brady will put up a lot of point. The last week the Broncos and Tebow had the luxury of playing at home against an injured quarterback and defense without their leading tackler. Also the Steelers were a wildcard team who didn’t win their division. The New England Patriots not only won their division, but they have the best record in the AFC. This will be a very tough match up for the Broncos, and you can see this in this weekend’s lines. Right now if you wanted to be the Patriots to win, they are current favored by 15 points to 13.5 points depending on the sportsbook that you bet with. These are some crazy odds, especially for the playoffs.
It basically means that almost no one thinks the Broncos will win this game. Of course if you do, you can bet on the Broncos to win straight up and at great odds. Right now if you bet on the Broncos to win this weekend, the odds are +575 to +600 depending on the sports book. So if you bet $100 on them to win, and they won, you could win $600. Pretty nice odds!
All the other games this weekend are considered to be much closer. The New Orleans Saints are on the road, but they are favored to beat the San Francisco 49ers by 3.5 points. The Houston Texans are playing the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore, and the Ravens are favored in that game. If you want to bet it, the spread is between 7.5 and 9 depending on the sports book you use. In the last game of the weekend, the Green Bay Packers are 8.5 to 9 points favored over the New York Giants.
This is the first weekend that the eventual 2012 NFL Super Bowl will definitely be playing in the playoffs. Last weekend the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers all had byes. Well the bye week is over and now all the teams will be playing. That said, below we had list the update odds for each team to win the Super Bowl. If you want to bet on the NFL Super Bowl today, these are the odds available at a major online sports book. These odds are pretty standard and they should be close to if not exactly the same odds that you will find at other online sports books or at the sports books in Las Vegas.
Odds to win the 2012 Super Bowl XLVI
Green Bay Packers 19/10
New England Patriots 11/4
New Orleans Saints 7/2
Baltimore Ravens 7/1
New York Giants 14/1
San Francisco 49ers 14/1
Houston Texans 28/1
Denver Broncos 40/1
The team that I think will most likely upset this week is the San Francisco 49ers. They are playing at home. It’s true that they will be facing Drew Brees and the awesome Saints offense, but the 49ers have a pretty solid defense. They are also underdogs playing at home which most sports bettors know is a bet that is worth taking. It used to be a golden rule in sports betting, to bet on the home-dog. I don’t think that it’s as strong a play today because so many gamblers have heard about it, but it could still be a good play in the NFL playoffs. So much money in going to be bet this week, that a little rule like this will easily be overlooked by the masses. Now I’m not guaranteeing that San Francisco will cover, and I haven’t bet on the game (yet), but this is something that I will definitely consider when placing my bets this weekend.
I don’t have much of an opinion on this weekend’s other game right now. Honestly, I can see reasons to bet on any of these teams to win the Super Bowl, and if you wanted to pick and bet the Super Bowl winner, now is the time to do it. After next weekend, when there will only be 4 teams left in the hurt that Super Bowl odds will drop significantly. Let’s say you want to bet on the Green Bay Packers because you like Aaron Rodgers and you think they can win the Super Bowl two years in a row. Right now the odds on the Packers winning the whole thing are 19/10. So you will need to be $190 to win $100. Once Green Bay wins next weekend (assuming that they do), the odds on this team could change to 25/10 meaning that you will need to bet $250 in order to win $100. It really depends on the teams left in the playoffs and who the sports bettors think will win the Super Bowl.
You can also bet on the 2012 Super Bowl match up. This bet lets you pick the two teams that you think will meet and play in Super Bowl 46. We have the odds for this listed below. You can see how the cooridinate with the normal Super Bowl odds above. The favorites above are the Packers and the Patriots. Below the most heavily bet match up is Green Bay Packers vs. New England Patriots while the match up with the longest odds is the NY Giants vs Denver.
