We are about a year away from the Super Bowl, so these odds could change A LOT, but these are the current odds for the 2012 Super Bowl in Indianapolis.
The current long shots are the Buffalo Bills and the Carolina Panthers. There should be no surprise there. Both these teams sucked last year. The Bills went 4-12 and the Panthers ended at 2-14. There were a few other teams that ended the season at 4-12 along with the Bills. Fortunately for those teams, they don’t play in the same division as the New England Patriots and the New York Jets, two teams that are on a lot of people’s lists to make the playoffs.
The Patriots are actually one of the two favorites to win the Super Bowl. The other current favorite is this year’s winner, the Green Bay Packers. Both teams are 7-1. The 2010 Super Bowl loser, the Pittsburgh Steelers are currently 11-1 to win the next Super Bowl.
Of course there might not even be a 2012 Super Bowl is the NFL owners and the players association doesn’t come to an agreement over the next 12 months. I know it’s early, but they’ve been negotiating for months now and the mediation has failed. The union has said that they think the NFL owners want to lock out the players soon. If this happens, the 2011 season could be in jeopardy.
Even if just one or two games is missed, it will have an impact on Super Bowl odds and bets, and it would have a major impact if half the season is missed. If the strike goes long enough, there will be a point were the season will be canceled completely. Of course we’re hoping that both sides come to an agreement soon, as we would hate to miss any of the next season.
