NFL News, Super Bowl News

Some NFL happenings-
The Jets might draft Matt Ryan with their sixth overall pick. At least that is what the NFL network thinks. Most people see them taking a defensive player that can help out right away with their first round pick, but the Jets do need a long term solution at quarterback and if Ryan drops to them, they might be tempted to grab him. Currently it’s expected that they won’t take a QB in the early rounds of this draft and let Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens fight it out for the starting job this year… After watching Pennington struggle to throw down field last year, I think Clemens will be named the starter with Chad acting more as a mentor this year.

The NFL was debating re-seeding the playoff seeds going forward, but only 3 teams supported the move. The thoughts behind this were that wildcard teams could get a first round playoff bye if they record was better than a divisions winner. This could force division winners into the 1st rounds and potentially force teams that have clinched playoff births to play to win in week 17 in order to get a bye in the playoffs. While the idea would benefit the fans who would be more interested in a last regular season game that matters, the owners don’t seem interested in forcing division winners into the first round of the playoffs.

It looks like Brian Urlacher will be skipping some of the Bears opening off season workouts. It’s contract negation time for the Urlacher camp, and he is refusing to participate in the early practices until he gets a new deal. We see this every year with players who are trying to get more cash or contract extensions, and while Urlacher has been doing this quieting, it’s bee reported that his camp has been negotiation with the Bears for at least the last 6 weeks.

More Super Bowl news–
The city of New Orleans did not submit a bid to host the 2012 Super Bowl even though they said earlier in the year that they would. Currently the 3 cities that have bids in are Houston, Glendale, and Indianapolis. While missing the cut off of 2012, New Orleans is expected to submit a bid for the 2013 Super Bowl, and I would expect them to get it. After all, who doesn’t like to party in Big Easy?

Hungover again

Another rough day today… Big Brother is on, so I’ll leave it at that.

In football news (kinda) I hear Leatherheads sucks. I’m not surprised.

That’s it for today…

Saturday April 5th

And it’s a great day! This site is back in google and yahoo, and even though it lost a little in rankings for the search term ”bet the super bowl”, at least it’s back.

I hate the rain, and the cold. It’s been nasty in NYC the last 2 weeks. It sucks. I can’t wait for Spring to hurry up and warm up this city. Global Warming has not been successful. We need to warm the global some more!

I can’t get over the Marlins having a cheer leading squad called the Marlin Mermaids. Baseball with cheerleaders, I love it. If I lived in the area, I would go to a Marlin’s game just to see this.

I just read that a judge the other day ripped Chris Henry a new one for his behavior and ruining the Bengals best chance at winning a Super Bowl. Apparently this judge thought pretty high of Henry’s play. I wonder where he was drafted in the judge’s fantasy league?

Another Super Bowl Ring was stolen. Just getting some new this week, Charlie Babb had his 1972 Super Bowl ring stolen from his car during a charity golf tournament in December. He also had a watch and an autographed helmet stolen from the car at the same time. The ring would be worth a lot as memorabilia, and I’m not sure what Super Bowl rings looked like in the 70s, but if they are anything like those given out today’s, I think the thieves could get some good money by just chopping it up for the gold and diamonds.

I bought some headphones on ebay about a month ago, and still haven’t gotten them. Damn Ebay…

The Marlins Mermaids, Chris Henry, and Hair

The Florida Marlins have Cheerleaders! And some of them are hot! The Marlins Mermaids are new this year and are an obvious ploy to try to get more people in the stands. I have to admit, I like baseball a lot more with cheerleaders. I wonder which will be the next team to follow suit? My guess would be the Devil Rays.

Marlins Mermaids

Chris Henry – Bengals wide receiver. What a train wreck. He was arrested again in Cincinnati a few days ago. The Bengals finally cut him, and it looks like he will never play in the NFL again. That is unless Dallas makes a play for him, like they are doing for Pacman Jones. I think this would be a risky move through. Henry was already suspended for 8 games last season. If he is on a roster in 2008 he could very well be suspended for the whole year if not indefinitely (aka forever). Would any team or coach really want to deal with that?

It looks like the NFL hair rule will not happen. The rule to not allow players to grow their hair long enough to cover their names on their jerseys was table at the NFL owners meeting. But for some reason the Chiefs are still trying to force this rule through. Those Chiefs must really hate long haired hippies.

I love it when a plan comes together…

Thank you for the line George Clooney. And thank you Google for bringing this site back from the dead. Just a minute ago I typed – bet the super bowl – into Google, not expecting to come even close to my site. The next thing I know, I see is this page ranked 5th on the list! It looks like all my clean up helped. Now if we could only get Yahoo to stop being to short sighted :O)

The NFL owners are meeting in Florida this week, and they decided that the forced out of bounds rule (a relatively new rule) will no longer be. Now the league rewinds a few years, and receivers must now have 2 feet inbounds to have a catch even if they are forced out.

LJ Smith signed with the Eagles again for 1 year… shocker.

Not much else interesting happening with the NFL these days. The Pats signed a new corner back. The Titans are still shopping Pacman Jones. The 5 yard face mask penalty has been eliminated (it’s now only a 15 yarder). You know, the same old stuff.

There is probably more Super Bowl news today…

Big news for the show “The Office”, it will have the post Super Bowl spot on NBC, Probably one of the best time slots on TV.

Also Houston submitted a bid for the 2012 Super Bowl today. A lot of other cities have already put in bids, and can continue to due so until May 9th. The next 3 Super Bowls will be in Tampa, Miami and Dallas. I’ve heard about betting on the Super Bowl. Maybe someone will bet on the Super Bowl city too.

Well that’s all for today. I’m loving Google. Come on Yahoo.

No socks, Black Budget, and Football

I got the gym today and started to change, looked in my bag, and I had no white socks. I work in black socks, hate wearing them with shorts, and I will not wear them with shorts and sneakers. So I came home without working out.

There are some pretty cool patches today in the New York Times. They are logos to the US Black Budget groups. A Black Budget is a secret budget for operations that a government doesn’t want people to know about. A new books came out today stating that currently the government is spending $32 billion in tax payer’s money on these groups.

NFL News!
Tom Brady has been skipping Patriot workouts to vacation in Europe with Gisele Bundchen. I for one hopes this hurts his play.

It’s unlikely that the Miami Dolphins will be able to move their #1 draft pick this year. It seems that teams are starting to back off these picks because of the high cost of signing these players. #1s in the draft demand high salaries, and in give these up, it could eat up a lot of a team’s salary cap, preventing them from signing re-signing players and free agents.

The Giants unveiled there Super Bowl rings today, and I like them. Lots of diamonds and white gold making these rings shine. Tiffany and Co. designed made them, so they have to be sick.

Monday’s Football News…

Just got back from the dentist… not much going on today. As usual work sucks.

NFL News:
The Jets owner stated today that Eric Mangini’s job is safe through 2008. So now Mangini has a free pass when the Jets to suck again this the year. I wonder what Herm Edwards thinks of that.

It looks like Herm Edwards has his eyes on the new NFL hair rule. He stated, “There’s a certain way you have to wear that suit in the league.” Of course, Herm has had a crew cut since birth, so that might influence his opinion.

Ex-Patriots lineman, Kenyatta Jones was arrested late last night for “standing on the dance floor at the Blue Martini nightclub when he attempted to urinate on the dance floor,” says Tampa police. Gross.

Super Bowl News:
The Colts and the Bears will have a rematch of Super Bowl XLI, the NFL announced today. The Colts will host the Chicago Bears on Sept. 7 on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. The game starts at 8:15 p.m. The Colts won Super Bowl XLI 29-17 and easily covered the 7 points spread.

See you tomorrow.

Some random NFL and Super Bowl stuff

Some NFL news – Jonathan Ogden, future hall of fame left tackle, is retiring from the Ravens this year. He hasn’t yet, but the team is preparing for the 2008 season without him. Rumors are they might even use a 1st round pick to draft for this position.

Pothead Ricky Williams will be running for the Dolphins next year, muddying up there fantasy running back situation. He wants to be on of the top 5 running backs in the NFL, but I don’t know if he’ll even be the top one in Miami.

Also, Jerry Jones can get $20M a year for the naming rights on the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. AT&T and Exxon Mobile might both be interested.

Any Super Bowl news?

A Seattle Seahawks fan got arrested after spitting in some one’s burger when making it at a fast food joint. The reason? The guy was wearing a Steelers shirt and talked some trash about Super Bowl 2006 when the Steelers upset the Seahawks. In all fairness, anyone who watched that game can tell you the true winners that day were the refs, who proved that they could manipulate the biggest game of the year in front of millions of fans, and get away with it.

Weddings cause hangovers

You know that you are hungover when the computer screen is so bright that I hurts your eyes.

The wedding was a lot of fun. A lot of shots and dancing usually makes them that way.

I can’t believe that there were rumors that the Yankees would be up for sale. People are stupid.

Well, I think that this is all my eyes can take. I need an advil, a nap and a beer. I’ll catch you tomorrow when I’m in better shape.

Matsui got married this week… and NFL news.

Congrats Matsui. I have a friend getting married tonight. Yes, it’s spring and love is in the air. How sweet.

In NFL news:
The Raiders signed Kalimba Edwards to a 2 year $5 million contract. Edwards played for the Lions for a few years and was really overpaid (4 years for $20 million). Now he goes to the lowly Raiders and will hopefully start and perform a lot better than he did in Mo-Town.

Laveranues Coles resigned with the Jets. Yeaaa! Now only if the Jets could get a good quarterback to throw to him, he could be a rather cheap fantasy football monster.

It looks like Pacman Jones is all set to go to the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys love taking headcases, and Pacman will be a nice addition to their list of mentally disturbed players. Dallas will also have to give him a hair cut.

Super Bowl News:
Nothing really, I guess the Hacker Super Bowl in going on this week. “fun”. To bad that you can’t bet on it.
