So I waited a few weeks, and nothing has changed…

This site is now going back to the way it was. The way it should be. Right now it’s stuck on the fourth page of Google for Bet the Super Bowl, when it used to sit in the top spot. That means that all the changes I made must have seriously hurt the site in Google’s algorithm. Which is bullshit because all the changes I made improved this site from a user prospective. But what’s the point of having a good website if no one will ever find it? So I’m changing it back to the Google friendly version which will hopefully push this site back to the top of Google’s search… All I can do now is make the change and wait and see.

There are a few changes that I’m currently considering keeping. First off, I changed the theme of this site, and while it’s still very simple, I prefer it to the way this site used to look. I know that this is a major change, and I’m going to seriously consider changing back the theme if the other things that I changed back don’t fix my ranking.

I was planning on keeping a few plug-ins, but I just decided not to. I had added about 6 plug-ins ove the last couple of months that really helped to speed up and socialize this site. I had links to this sites twitter, Facebook and Google plus pages. I also easy links that visitors could use to share my posts, but not anymore. All of that is now gone. I also got rid of the comments and the plug-ins that I used to use to help moderate the spam. No more commenting here thanks to Google.

Lastly I remove a plug-ins that actually made this site load faster and one which provided a site map for Google. You never really know what Google decided it didn’t like about this site verse what it used to, so I figured I’d just trash everything that was new with the exception of the theme. Of course if my ranking doesn’t change in another couple of weeks, this theme is going right back to the one it’s been for the last several years.

I guess the old saying is true. “If it aint broke, don’t fix it.” It took me a couple of times to learn my lesson, but now I know that I can’t really make any changes to this site going forward and expect it to rank well for betting on the Super Bowl. So since that’s the case, don’t expect there to be main changes around here in the future.

Well thanks for reading my off topic ranting for the last several weeks. I’m not exactly sure how people continue to find this site, but we’re glad that you do!

I’ve been updating this site a lot over the last couple of weeks, and as you may be able to tell, it’s still a work in progress. I’ve added social sharing buttons so you can share this site easily on Facebook, Google and Twitter. I’ve also added links to our Facebook, Google and Twitter pages with the slider on the right hand side of this site. Lastly I added pages to the menu at the top where none existed before. These pages aren’t complete, but I wanted to put them up and work to complete them during the offseason. Oh! I also added more categories to my posts such as “The offseason”. But now I have to reconsider all these updates…

I thought that these changes improved the site, and I think most people would agree with me. Unfortunately Google isn’t most people. Before these changes, this site was the 1st or 2nd hit in Google for “bet the Super Bowl”. I was even rambling about my battle with Sportsbook for the top stop in my last post. But apparently Google doesn’t like all the changes that I’ve been making, because this site which was one of the top hits for betting on the Super Bowl for years, is now on the fifth page for the exact same phrase! What gives?

This happened to me once before. I think about a year ago, I got the same bright idea to change this site and update it, but the few things that I changed made this site drop in Google. It’s happening again now…

I even half expected this site to drop in ranking a little. That’s why I waited to make changes until after the 2012 Super Bowl. But I never expected this site to drop off the front page, and now that it has, I have to reconsider every change I’ve made to date.

After all, this website is dedicated to betting on the Super Bowl. The first hit in Google is for a sportsbook that you can use to bet on the Super Bowl, but that site doesn’t even mention the Super Bowl on its homepage. How the hell is this site the first hit, and my site which is completely relevant and making changes to improve dropped to the fifth page of results? It’s crazy.

Sure. Google can list sites however they want to, but it isn’t fair. So what am I going to do?

Right now, nothing. I figure I have a lot of time until the next Super Bowl, so I can afford to let this site sit for a few weeks. I’m hoping that this is just a temporary change and that my site will be back on the first page in a couple of weeks. Of course if it’s not, I’ll have to make some changes.

Unfortunately I think I’ll have to change this site back to the way it was. It wasn’t as user friendly, but at least people could find it. I figure it’s better to be seen and average than to be awesome and completely ignored.

So that’s the plan for now. Hopefully the ship will right on its own over the next couple of weeks, but if it doesn’t, I’ll be forced to reverse all the changes I made and hope that the damage caused will only be temporary.

Thanks for reading. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks to reevaluate and determine which direction this site will head.

How this site not top ranked for “Bet the Super Bowl” is beyond me. As of today, who is ranked #1? Some shitty online sportsbook, that doesn’t even have the Super Bowl in it’s description. This just proves that sites with money can pay for links and get ranked in Google and Bing for almost any phrase they want. How is a small site like mine suppose to compete?

Well I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. I’d like to think that if I continue to write good, quality content about the NFL and the Super Bowl, I should regain the top spot that I once owned. Unfortunately I’m not sure that this would work. It seems like it would be a very hard to fight and overtake Sportsbook by just writing new articles and getting new readers. I think I’ll have to try to get some new links pointed to my site, but I’m not sure how.

The first thing I’m thinking about is buying a link in the Yahoo! Directory. I imagine that the category this site would best fit in is Football > Gambling, but that would be up to the directory editors to determine. That’s if they even accept my site, after I decide if I’m going to submit my site.

The reason I’m not sure if I want to submit my site is that it costs $300 to submit your site to the directory, and that doesn’t mean that my site will be approved and put in the directory. So I can submit my site, pay $300 and never be listed. Then again I could be listed, and once you are in the directory, it costs $300 per year to keep your site listed. So if I do get listed, I’ll need to continue to pay $300 every year afterwards to keep the link.

Lastly I’m not even sure how much that link will help my site. I don’t expect to get much traffic through the yahoo directory. My site focuses on only one game a year, so I’m not sure how many people will be looking in the directory to try to find out how to bet on the Super Bowl. I think I will get some traffic from the listing, but the I think the biggest benefit of having this listing is the link that the directory will point to my site.

You see search engine point a lot of priority on the websites that have a lot of good links from other “important” websites pointed at them. I have to assume that yahoo would be considered an important website. Their directory was on of the first internet directories, and it’s probably the only one that still exists that it’s absolute garbage (like the DMOZ). But is a link from the Yahoo Directory worth paying $300 a year? I have no idea of knowing this…

I guess the only thing I can do is develop this site to a point were I think Yahoo would love to have it in their directory. Then I save up the $300 for the listing fee, cross my fingers, submit the site and hope for the best.

Hopefully with some effort, we can retake the top spot in Goolge and Bing for betting on the super Bowl by next February. After all that is what this site is all about. We should be the top site listed!

I know that this is off topic, but it’s something that we think and care about. Thanks for reading. We promise the next post will be football related!

So Tebow ended up on the New York Jets. Is this a good thing for Mark Sanchez? A lot of people don’t think so, but some do. It will definitely give the Jets’ offense a lot of new looks. The Wildcat should be a featured part of their offense this season, and Tebow should average 5-10 snaps a game. Maybe more depending on how successful he is.

So that has to be good for Sanchez, doesn’t it. Tebow is a great option quarterback, but he won’t be able to run the Jets normal offense. Sanchez is the man in that role. But having Tebow run the Wildcat will force opposing defenses to adjust and plan on facing two completely different offenses. This should open up some things for Sanchez, and allow him to do more with less plays. I for one hopes it works this way.

Fantasy Football Update: Tim Tebow… just kidding. Michael Bush signed today with the Chicago Bears, Fantasy players will remember that Bush had a great year last year on the Oakland Raiders backing up Darren McFadden. Bush started 9 games when McFadden went down with a foot injury. Totaling 977 rushing yards and another 418 threw the air.

Bush helped me win my big money fantasy football league last year. This was also a keeper league, so I was hoping that he would find a starting role somewhere. Right now it looks like he’ll be backing up Forte, who hasn’t agreed to a new contract with the Bears yet. Here is to hoping that they don’t come to an agreement and Forte ends up on someone else roster. It’s not likely, but it’s not impossible either. Just look at Peyton Manning. A couple weeks ago, no thought he would be on the Broncos. Yet there he is.

Okay now back to Tebow. His fantasy value takes a huge hit with this news. In all reality he’ll probably only be on the field for 5-10 plays per game, and they torpedos his fantasy value. Unless he gets the majority of red zone plays, I can’t see justifying starting him any week.

That said, this also hurts Mark Sanchez’s fantasy value. He’ll be on the field for 5-10 plays less that he normally would be. Sanchez who wasn’t really a good fantasy quarterback last year, will lose even more value because he shouldn’t be running the ball at all. Tebow will most probably handle every QB sneak.

If you think that a quarterback not running isn’t a big deal, tell that to Cam Newton owner last year. Newton was one of the most productive fantasy QBs last year because he ran the ball. Most leagues give a lot more points for rushing yards than passing yards, so a running QB can be fantasy gold.

Okay that’s about all for now. Thanks again for reading. This offseason hasn’t been so bad… Unless of course you’re a member of the New Orleans Saints organization…

So what will Tim Tebow roles on the Jets team be? I think it’s safe to say that he’ll lead the team prayers services. Haha.

Recently, I’ve decide that this site need a major make over. Right now I’m using some basic WordPress template, and we don’t even have a custom header. Not good. Basically this site looks like shit and it needs a major make over.

The first step in this process will be changing the template. I think I already know which template I’m going to use. It’s WordPress template 2010. It’s simple and clean, and I have experience with it on other sites. Plus it allows for a custom header which will make this site look more professional.

The next change would be to add the header. I have a guy for this. I found him over on Reddit about a year ago, and he’s made headers for a couple other sites I own. He’s good, fast and cheap. What more could you ask for?

I’ll ask have to add pages and update the content of this site. Over the years, this site has gone through a lot of changes. I’ve deleted 100s of pages (which I now wish I never did), and I’ve written about all kinds of things, some of them non-football related. Now I really want to focus on providing more and more quality content. I’m going to add some basic pages to teach people how to bet on football and the Super Bowl. I’m going to make a page dedicated to keeping up to date Super Bowl odds and another page that’s all about famous Super Bowl bets. It’s going to be great. The more I think about this site the more ideas I great. I just need to find the time to implement them all.

Also as soon as I finish this post, I’m going to remove the blog roll that I have on this site. I think it’s dumb and it just links to old Super Bowl sites. Hell, I can link to these sites directly from my articles. This is what I should be doing anyway! Here NFL take a link!

Enough of the fun and games. On to serious topics like where will Tim Tebow end up? Who knows, I just hope he doesn’t become a Jet. Mark Sanchez is the starter there, and there is absolutely no reason to bring in Tebow to compete for the starting job. The Jets locker room is already in shambles, adding Tebow to the mix would only serve to create more chaos in that organization. This is one New York fan that would be happy if he goes elsewhere.

Thanks for reading! And we have one more change, comments are now open! If you want to leave us a comment, please feel free!

Football is by far the most popular sport in America. It’s the offseason, and it still gets a lot of coverage on EPSN. Peyton Manning is just one football player, but hours or radio and TV airtime are dedicated to where he is going to go. (Today we think it’s the Arizona Cardinals. Tomorrow we’ll think somewhere else.) Mean while other sports like soccer and hockey almost never get mentioned. It’s a far distance between 1st and 4th in the world of sports.

The reason that I’m even thinking about this is that it’s soccer season in America. The MLS started a week ago with almost no coverage. Meanwhile Peyton Manning’s press conference from Indy was carried live not just on ESPN, but on real news channels like CNN. The divide between the coverage of these two sports is enormous.

Football is a great sport, and people love to bet on it. The Super Bowl is the most heavily bet game every year. It’s the monster game that one other game in any other sport can compete with. The next closest game would probably be the FIFA World Cup final which is watched and bet on by millions around the world. But this game is once every 4 years while the Super Bowl is played every February. That’s how huge the Super Bowl really is.

Football is so popular that fantasy football is a separate industry in itself. There are tons of sites and magazines dedicated to just fantasy football. And it’s actually cool to play fantasy football, which is amazing. This is a game that was started by stats nerds 20 years ago. I think fantasy sports actually started with baseball. Anyway, it was all about reading over stats to determine which players where better than others, and it kind of evolved into a game by guys who were really into stats.

OF course now with computers it’s a lot easier to play fantasy sports, but it’s still at its core a math heavy game based on stats. It’s perfect for people who are really into baseball, and I guess it’s good for people who are into football and love to gamble. Because fantasy football can be a huge gamble and involves a lot of luck.

You can have the perfect draft every year, but if your 1st and 2nd round draft picks get injured, your season is pretty much over. And in a violent sport like football, it’s not too farfetched to think that you can lose your first to picks to injury. People get injured all the time. Just look at Peyton Manning.

And we’ve now come full circle, so I think we’ll leave it at that. Thanks for reading during the boring offseason. If you continue to stop by, we’ll continue to write. See you soon!

I don’t think there are many surprises coming out of the NFL combine. The biggest one might be wide receiver Michael Floyd who is 6’3”, 225 pounds and ran a 4.47 forty. Supposedly he really impressed in his interviews as well, so he has definitely increased his draft value.

We we disappointed that Robert Griffin III didn’t throw any passes this week, but we have seen him do it a lot throughout his college career. RG3 is a great pocket passer and he will go #2 in the draft after Andrew Luck.

We’re not sure which team will draft RG3. The Rams currently hold the 2nd first round draft pick, but they don’t need a quarterback and are expected to trade it. Right now everyone seems to think that Cleveland will trade for the pick and that Washington and the Miami Dolphins are also interested.

Super Bowl News –

Indianapolis’s mayor Greg Ballard wants to host the Super Bowl again soon! His argument is that the city did such a good job this time around that they deserve to host the game again in the near future.

We don’t disagree. We were not there, but everything we heard coming out of Indianapolis was very positive. The city was nice and clean. The hotels were very close to each other and the stadium which made it easy for the teams and press to move around and cover the event.

Next year’s Super Bowl will be in New Orleans and will coincide with Mardi Gras. That should be a very interesting scene. NFL fans and Mardi Gras partiers sharing the city for the week will definitely make hotel room prices sky rocket. I hope by team makes it to the Super Bowl, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to travel to New Orleans to see them play. If they do make it, I might have to just bet the game and watch it from home (like any other year).

We brought you the updated odds for the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans a few weeks ago, not much has changed since then. The NFL combine has allowed a few rookies to demonstrate their worth, but since the NFL draft has not happened, we still don’t much team they will end up on, with the exception of Andrew Luck who we all know is going to Indianapolis. Of course, the interesting thing now is that Indy is going to cut Peyton Manning since they’ll be drafting Luck, and another team will be able to sign him. Whichever team signs Manning will have a legitimate shot at winning the Super Bowl, and their odds are going to change overnight.
